Hello
again everyone. ItÕs October already. I actually saw Christmas trees and decorations
on display at MacyÕs LAST weekend! The war is raging, the debates are on, the
JPL fiscal year is over, and still there is music.
The Border Radio performance at the Bean Town Coffee house in Sierra Madre was great. A good room, good coffee and eats, with lots of old fans, and a few new ones. The gig at ColeÕs in Downtown L.A. with I See Hawks in L.A. went well too. The room is so live that the whole band plays and sings into a single microphone, and everything is completely acoustic. Very cool vibe! I See Hawks in L.A. is a great band, and I highly recommend that you check them out. Unfortunately, Brantley Kearns, their fiddle player, was conspicuously absent from that show on Wednesday night. IÕve known Brantley for 30 years, and he is one of the finest fiddle players around, not to mention a wonderful human being. He is suffering from a pinched nerve in his neck that is preventing him from playing. I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to not be able to play. So I would like to ask everyone who reads this to say a special prayer for Brantley. Please, send Brantley some healing energy, and help him get his music back.
As usual, the Saint Monica's Church Octoberfair
was tremendous fun. Hot Lips
& Fingertips played a couple of lively sets, lots of dancing and
merry-making. A wonderful time was had by all. Great chili and Martinis too!
The Ventura Seaside Highland Games and the events surrounding them have been in a, how shall I say, ÔfluidÕ state until this morning, when I received final scheduling information for all of the MacLear shows at the games, and confirmation of some evening festivities on Friday and Saturday night at the Aloha Steak House. So, if you are curious about Scottish music, food and folklore, or you just want to go out and have a rousing good time and listen to some great Celtic Folk, Rock, Pop, Pipes and Fiddles, check out all of the MacLear performances in Ventura this weekend. There will be lots of Tartan, Haggis, and men in Kilts. DonÕt miss it!
On a very sad note, there is an added show this weekend. This show is a benefit for Travis Parker at the Cowboy Palace Saloon in Chatsworth. I will be performing with Pam Loe, Paul Marshall, and other close friends of TravisÕ.
Travis Parker died Monday August 2, 2004 as the result of a shooting while he was leaving The Music Store in Orange County where he gave music lessons.
All proceeds from this benefit
will go into a fund for Travis's two-year-old daughter, Tricia Rose, to be
administered when she reaches age twenty-one. Further donations may be
made at any Washington Mutual branch using the following account number:
Tricia Rose Parker

Come and lend your spirits to the celebration of a life, and the memory of a fine musician, fiddler and father.
Peace.
