October
has come and is almost gone. The White House and Camp David have ordered their
Christmas trees, Halloween is less than a week away, and the fate of the next
four years of global politics is just over a week away. Terrorism continues, as
does the war upon it. Southern California is finally getting some rain, we've
taken some really cool pictures of the Red Planet, and my gig-list is looking
mighty slim. It's hard to believe that we are poised to close 2004.
Thanksgiving is only a month away. And, oh yes, Christmas is already in full
swing at the department stores!
This is not a mailing list that talks about politics or that waxes poetic about how time moves inextricably forward. Nor is it a newscast. But I always believe that perspective is a good thing, so in presenting my gig schedule for the remainder of 2004 and beginning of 2005, I felt it appropriate to touch upon a few of the more representative events of 2004. Besides, isn't that what we're supposed to do as the year approaches its conclusion?
As of now, I only have two public performances scheduled before the end of the year, along with two weddings. (It's nice to see people are still getting married. There is still optimism in the world).
I'm playing with my two favorite bands, Border Radio and Hot Lips and Fingertips. These could be the last public gigs for both of these bands (and for me) for the rest of the year, unless some last-minute holiday celebration conjures up some new business, so please try and come to one of them.
Hot Lips and Fingertips will be playing early next month at one of our favorite venues, Boulevard Music. This is a little 100-seat hall in a music store. It's a great place to hear good music, and Hot Lips and Fingertips is about as much of a band as you can fit onto their stage. Don't miss the final Hot Lips and Fingertips show of 2004.
Border Radio is playing at the first annual Folk Alliance Regional West (FAR-West) Conference in Woodland Hills next Friday night. We're scheduled to perform at 10:15pm. And if you can't make that one, then you'll have to wait until January 22, 2005 to catch us at Bob Stain's Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena. Rumor has it that Kelly bakes pies for the Coffee Gallery concerts, and raffles a couple off at the show!
I'll keep you posted if anything new comes up. Until then, I wish each and every one of my loyal readers peace and sanity, love and health for the coming season of transition. The next few months will witness a lot of transitions, spanning different religions, different ethnic groups, different nationalities, and different social and political beliefs. We are now in the middle of the Muslim Ramadan. There will be the Wiccan Samhain, the Mexican Day of the Dead, the United States Presidential Election, the American Thanksgiving, the Jewish Chanukah, the Winter Solstice, the Christian Christmas and New Year, to name just a few.
Hang on to your seats -- we're in for a bumpy ride. Keep your hearts focused on the horizon, and let music release your spirit and bring us all together in unity, support and love.
See you at the gig.
Peace.
